Best wine destinations in Europe

A wise philosopher once said, “There’s no week so bad it can’t be solved with a bottle of wine.” Okay, well, actually we said it, but that doesn’t make it any less true! Sipping (or gulping) some of your very favorite vino is the perfect way of letting go of your stress and anxiety, and just relaxing on a Friday night. Wine is an iconic drink, appearing in the Bible as the blood of Christ. So, in many ways, it’s the lifeblood of the world – depending on whether you’re religious of course.

Not only is wine delicious, but there are lots of different types of it as well, and these deserve to be discovered. Whether red, white, or rose is your poison, there are so many exquisite wines on the market, from all over the world. Now, we might be controversial here, but we think Europe is the absolute best location for wine in the world – join us, as we get under the (grape) skin of Europe’s best wine destinations.

France

Nobody does wine quite like the French. Say what you want about them, but they are the masters of turning grapes into the finest wine known to man. There are several regions of France where they have some truly exquisite vineyards, producing some of the best wines in the world. The main place to check out is, of course, Bordeaux – the wine Mecca for Europeans everywhere. Take a guided tour of wine country on foot, or by boat, and enjoy some wine tasting tours as well! To make the most of it, travel an hour to Saint-Emilion, a medieval town surrounded by 21 square miles of stunning vineyards! Vive la France!

Italy

Frascati, Chianti, Barolo; these are just a few of the excellent wines produced by the Italians. It’s fair to say that Italy does some of the best food in the world, and their wine is no slouch either! And, there is perhaps no more famous wine region in the world than the beautiful rolling hills of Tuscany. If you want to go on a wine tour of Europe, you need to make sure you check out Tuscany as one of the first places you go. This sensational testament to the might and majesty of the Roman Empire ranks as one of the finest places in the world to find wine.

Portugal

You might not instantly view Portugal as the principal place to go for amazing wine, but that’s because you’re overlooking the Douro Valley! This enchanting valley is one of the most beautiful places in the whole of Europe, and the rolling hills are where delicious Portuguese wines are produced. But, that’s not all, Portugal also has the region of Alentejo, where 22,000 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of local and national wines. Never overlook Portugal as one of the finest wine producers in all of Europe.

Of course, these are just three of the places in Europe producing exceptional wine – there are others too, such as Spain and Romania. But, we feel like the three we’ve talked about are the pinnacle of wine production in Europe, and produce some of the best wines in the world. If you are any kind of wine buff, you should be loading up Google right now, and booking a wine tour vacation to one of these countries!
