It wasn’t bad enough that these settlers were forcing the natives to flee from the land they had been happily living on for many years before anybody else ever set foot there. As well as forcing the natives out, they were also taken as their servants. There was a lot that happened during the colonial era in America so often people don’t quite manage to cover it all when they study history in school. The history of America during that time is fascinating because it really shows us how not to treat people and highlights the barbaric and messed up nature of the early settlers who chose to take the country by force. It is important to look back on as it gives us more understanding of our roots and how the society that we live in came to be.
The world is a dark and scary place now, but back in colonial times, it is fair to say it was much, much worse. Now we have a health care system that fully understands how the human body works and doesn’t rely on magic remedies that could potentially make things worse. The colonial medical practices leave a lot to be desired in comparison to today’s methods. You might have gone to the doctor with an illness, and instead of looking for a cure, they would try and make you even sicker to try and flush it all out. It wasn’t a fun time to be alive, not only was the medicine violent but so was society. Conflict was everywhere and as well as fighting the native Americans, settlers were also fighting among themselves trying to lay claim to any bit of land they could. They were dark and dangerous times filled with bizarre behaviors.
