The first ever, regularly scheduled news broadcast in America came back in 1940 and was hosted by Lowell Thomas. While this only lasted a few months, a year later CBS tried their hand at television news broadcasts in America, and it became a hit with audiences across the nation.
Over the years, there have been plenty of famous news anchors that people cannot wait to see on their TV screens. However, it has also been a fairly male-dominated industry until recently. With big names such as Walter Cronkite, Peter Jennings, Bill O’Reilly, and Douglas Edwards dominating the screen, it certainly seemed like being a news anchor was a “man’s job.” More recently, however, we have seen more and more female news anchors taking that coveted role of reading out the headlines.
