Vacations give you the chance to relax, unwind, and focus on something other than your work or chores that have to be completed, right? Normally, those who go on vacation have the most wonderful time and come back feeling refreshed after a trip that couldn’t have been more perfect if they tried. However, that isn’t always the case. Over the years, scammers seem to have become more and more prevalent in our society, and it seems as though they are now targeting unsuspecting vacationers in their hotel rooms. We live in a world full of technology, and although it has come on leaps and bounds over the years, we all know that it can still be pretty temperamental. Because of this, scammers are able to easily get away with this trick. All they have to do is hack the hotel’s phone system, phone up to your room, and then tell you that there has been a glitch in the computer system and that they need your card details again. Because they are phoning the room in the hotel, most people think them to be real employees of the hotel. Unless you have dialed the number, never give out your card number on the phone. If the hotel really does need your details, go down to the front desk.

If you’ve ever been in a hotel and seen a flyer for a pizza place slide its way under the door, you may have just avoided being scammed. That’s because this fake pizza trick has caught countless people across the globe, as it seems so legitimate. For this trick, the scammers create fake flyers and prey on those who just love room service. Those who call the number will be asked to place their order and then hand over their card details over the phone. Of course, no pizza actually turns up. One of the best ways to avoid this scam is to double-check the legitimacy of the pizza place. A quick Google search will tell you whether it’s real or not.

The “room damage” trick

Although we all like to believe that hotels have got their customers’ back, that just isn’t the case sometimes. Many hotels con their customers out of money when they have checked out of the hotel, as they accuse them of damage to the room. The customer will receive a bill when they get home, but because the hotel has their billing details, they are able to instantly charge them and take money from you even if you haven’t damaged the room. To stop this from happening to you, make sure that you take a picture of your room as you check out. If the hotel knows that you are actively going to fight the case and have proof, they will normally back down.
