Amusement park rides that are not to be missed

A day at an amusement park can be hit or miss. Scaredy-cats won’t go near them, but adrenaline-junkies can’t get enough.

But nowadays, theme parks offer so much more than your bog-standard log-flume or your loop-the-loop roller coaster. The mechanical and technological capabilities of the modern amusement park ride has just entered a new age of thrill and excitement, now offering ride computer technology that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We’re talking about the new type of multi-million dollar motion-based ride, combining effective elements of an indoor dark-ride, a simulator, and the good old classic rollercoaster. It gives you an immersive experience like no other, telling you a story, bringing you right to the forefront of the action, and engaging every one of your senses as you ride around its track.

Here are five of these incredibly themed amusement park rides that you just cannot miss!

Harry Potter & The Forbidden Journey, Islands of Adventure

As the first of the Potter-themed ride on this list, this ride is set within the walls of Hogwarts Castle. It takes riders on an exhilarating journey through familiar scenes of the Harry Potter films, meeting some of your favorite characters along the way. It uses a sort of robotic-arm technology, giving you a mind-blowing combinative experience of screen-technology, real-life special effects and incredible animatronics.

Radiator Spring Racers, Disney California Adventure

This one’s definitely for all you big kids out there. You’ll sit in the front seat of your favorite Disney Cars character and race around a Scalextric slot-car type track that’ll leave you screaming with absolute joy. It’s a mix of both indoor and outdoor scenes, racing over hills and around sharp corners towards the finishing line, which always ends with an automated randomized winner each time! Universal are also working on Mario-kart version of this slot-car ride technology. Exciting stuff.

Expedition Everest, Disney’s Animal Kingdom

This steel coaster from Disney is one of the most expensive amusement park rides ever built, costing over $100 million. You’ll journey through the rip-roaring slopes of a spectacularly built Mount Everest, which according to legend, has been occupied by a giant yet for centuries. Think of this as a sort of runaway train, gone terribly wrong! You’ll even meet the wrath of the angry yeti himself.

The Revenge of the Mummy, Universal Studios Orlando

Ever wanted to experience the movies? Well, Universal Studios is the place for you to be, and it’s 2004 attraction Revenge of the Mummy does not disappoint. It’s a fiercely dark ride, taking you through the fictional setup of an ancient tomb and a horrifying crypt, then blasting you over 50mph into a thrilling roller coaster. This one’s certainly not for the faint-hearted!

Harry Potter & The Escape from Gringotts, Island of Adventure

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Orlando’s Universal Resort is every bit as magical as you’d hope it would be. This second attraction opened up in 2014, taking riders down into the vaults of Gringotts Wizarding Bank on an action-filled adventure like no other. It’s dark, fast, and full of unexpected scares. Watch out for Bellatrix Lestrange and the Dark Lord himself along the way too. The Wizarding World’s third ride called Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is also opening up in June 2019.
