Stick on the news nowadays and you’ll either see an article informing us on how the disastrous effects of climate change are imminent or how we’re completely destroying the planet’s ecosystem. Or just generally that the fate of humanity is basically doomed.
They’re not wrong at all, but sometimes the dark and gloomy horizon of the planet’s post-climate change dystopian future is not exactly what you want to hear about. Instead, sometimes it’s nice to get some inspirational encouragement for how we can really make a difference before it’s all too late. So here are five of what we think are the most inspiring quotes about the planet.
“One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between man and nature shall not be broken.”
We often tend to forget where the human came from – evolved from cavemen, primates, small mammals, however you want to put it. And with the detachment from our ancestral biological history comes a detachment from who we really are as functioning, living beings. To ensure our future is as bright and happy as want it to be, it’s vital we reconnect with our natural origin in as many ways as we can.
“He that plants trees loves others besides himself.”
Sustainability is an essential aspect of building a future not just for ourselves, but for the hundreds of generations that will continue to live on after us – our children, our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren and so on. Planting a tree is one way to start, as it will grow stronger and bigger through the years to come, even when we’re not here to sit under it anymore.
“It’s impossible to get through a single day without making an impact on the world around you.”
That’s right – even if you don’t leave your room and lounge in bed all day watching Netflix, you will still be having a physical impact on the world. And we hate to break it to you, the vast majority of this impact is negative. As a human society, we’re using up our planet’s resources quicker than our population can sustainably cope with, so always be conscious of your day to day habits. It’s time to truly think about the consequences of your consumerist actions.
“Environmentally friendly cars will soon cease to be an option…they will become a necessity.”
Anyone else getting frustrated that air-polluting fossil fuel cars of yesterday are still raking in the top dollars of tomorrow’s market? Where is the change? We need it TODAY, not tomorrow. Although a lot of countries around the world have made agreements to abolish the sales of petrol or diesel cars in the upcoming future years, it’s still not soon enough.
“Live in each season as it passes. Breathe the air, drink the drink taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of each.”
The use of social media and the internet has transformed culture and society more abruptly and drastically than anything else in the world. It’s like we’re on fast-forward, forgetting to stop for a while and take in the sights, sounds and smells of the world around us. Instead, now we seem to get all of our informational needs from looking down at a screen, rather than looking up at what’s really around you.
Deep stuff, right? It’s quotes like these that are our only shot at waking the world up to the alarm that’s dangerously been put on snooze for decades. The time for change is not tomorrow, it’s NOW.
